Review of Somerset Sukhumvit ekamai, Bangkok: A Cozy Stay with Minor Drawbacks

If you're looking for a comfortable stay in Bangkok with the convenience of nearby BTS access, Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor could be a solid choice. My stay was generally positive, with a few small inconveniences that are worth mentioning.

Price and Booking

I managed to book my stay at Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor for around 89,000 KRW (~$67 USD) by using a Trip.com discount. Including breakfast, the rate came to around 90,000 KRW. The regular price is slightly over 100,000 KRW, so the discounted price was a good deal.

Somerset Ekamai Bangkok

Location

Somerset is located near Ekkamai BTS station, though it’s a bit tucked away. While Ekkamai and Thonglor areas are known for their bustling nightlife, getting around can be a hassle due to traffic congestion. I found myself frequently using both Grab and Bolt, as taxis were often stuck in traffic.

Breakfast Experience

The breakfast included in my booking was enjoyable. It’s definitely worth adding breakfast to your reservation; it's about 15,000 KRW per person if booked separately, but it only costs around an additional 15,000 KRW for two people when included in the room rate.

Room and Facilities

While the room seemed basic, it had all the essentials. A standout feature was the in-room washing machine with a drying function. This was incredibly convenient, especially for Southeast Asian trips where quick laundry access is a major plus. The pool, though available, was less appealing due to the cold water; sunlight doesn't reach the area well, making it chilly.

Cleanliness

On arrival, I noticed a few hairs in the bathroom, which hadn’t been thoroughly cleaned. I had to request housekeeping, who came quickly but only did a quick wipe-down to remove the hair. This was a bit of a letdown in terms of cleanliness.

Shuttle Service

The hotel provides a shuttle to the BTS station, but this only runs a few times a day. If you’re traveling in a group, taking a Grab or Bolt ride might be just as efficient.

Final Thoughts

Somerset Sukhumvit Thonglor is a comfortable hotel with helpful amenities, though the location and some minor cleaning issues detracted from the experience. Overall, if you’re planning a longer stay in Bangkok, it’s a good choice, but there might be better options if you’re only here for a night or two.
